On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Canada-Italy diplomatic relations, which will be celebrated in 2022, and in line with the dynamic and forward-looking nature of both countries, the Embassy of Canada in Rome launched the tenth edition of the “Canada-Italy Innovation Award,” an innovation prize that aims to support projects and research in priority areas for the Governments of the two countries, in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The prize, created in 2013, annually funds members of the Italian innovation ecosystem, including researchers, scientists, start-ups or creative industry professionals to develop collaborative projects with Canadian partners in areas that can foster innovative, inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development. The focus areas considered are Science, Technology and Social Sciences.
For the 2022 edition, the themes chosen for new project development are Mental Health, Plastic Waste Management, Clean Energy to Counter Climate Change, and Quantum Technology.
The winners will get the reimbursement of expenses incurred for the realization of the project or a trip to Canada – if allowed by the anti-Covid rules in force – for a maximum amount of three thousand euros. In particular, among the costs eligible for reimbursement are included training expenses, rental of facilities and equipment, participation in conferences, communication activities, translation and interpretation, website development and advertising expenses. Excluded, however, are gifts, the purchase of luxury goods, funding for political parties or government agencies, and salary costs for hiring staff to support projects.
The deadline for applications is April 1, 2022, and final winners will be announced on May 16, 2022. Expenses incurred prior to the latter date will not be considered for reimbursement under the award.
